This is ridiculous. Kate Hudson has built her entire image on not being edgy, and here she is trying to be Gemma Ward or Linda Evangelista. It could be a cool "stepping outside her box" kind of thing, but it comes across more like when Tara Reid played a rocket scientist in Alone in the Dark... completely ridiculous.
This falls more in the horribly fug category. First, she's a victim of horrible styling. She looks like Cleopatra. Second, her smirk is not cute, its unflattering. Her eyebrows are at a high arch which pulls her face skin and makes her look tense. Her nose looks hooky too. Third, it's an issue about skin, and she looks oily and washed out.
Verdict: W gets points on sheer ridiculousness, but Marie Claire takes the cake with their trainwreck Eva Mendes cover.
